Natural Resources Conservation Service Offering Grants to Arkansas Landowners to Improve Quail Habitat
The federal Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is currently offering landowners in twenty counties the opportunity to earn $36 per acre to improve bobwhite quail habitat. A key requirement of the program is that the landowner must consent to controlled burns to help facilitate sunlight penetration in wooded areas and grass growth. NRCS will help with burns and install permanent firebreaks. Counties which are eligable to participate include: Ashley, Baxter, Benton, Carroll, Drew, Faulkner, Fulton, Hempstead, Logan, Marion, Nevada, Newton, Pulaski, Randolph, Searcy, Sebastian, Sharp, St. Francis, Stone, and Yell. The program is limited to $600,000 in total funds and landowners have until January 30 of this year to apply. For more information, contact your local NRSC office.
