Clean Power Plan Begins Today

The Obama administration's Clean Power Plan, which imposes heightened regulations on power plants and emphasizes natural gas as an energy source, officially begins today. The Clean Power Plan proposes sweeping changes to the electricity generation sector and attempts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from power generators by thirty-two percent by 2030 under provisions in the Clean Air Act.  Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge announced in August that Arkansas would join a coalition of twenty-three other states challenging the EPA's power to impose the Plan's regulations.  The lawsuit is currently before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
